Raba on the Dobczyce – Gdów section is an interesting and very fishy “catch and release” (C&R) fishery, hosted by the PZW Kraków District. This medium-sized mountain river picturesquely meanders here between the hills. The banks are overgrown with trees and clumps of wicker. The bottom is mostly rocky and sometimes gravelly. There are natural narrowings. Fast currents wash up to 1.5 m deep gutters under the banks, which then turn into a flat – and so alternately from one bank to the other. Because this fishery is located directly below the dam in Dobczyce, the water here is cold and well oxygenated all year round. This creates favorable conditions for the existence of trout and grayling.
At present, the dominant species is brown trout, with which this section of the Raba River has been intensively stocked for several years. Mostly specimens 30 – 45 cm long are caught. However, you should be prepared to meet specimens much larger than half a meter. The second fish that makes it worth visiting the Raba is the grayling. Its population is getting bigger every year. Unfortunately, catching an individual longer than 35 cm is still a rarity. Other fish include chubs and dace, as well as occasional guinea pigs, barbels and asps. Only fly fishing is allowed in this fishery. The biggest brookfish are the easiest to tempt for a streamer. With nymphs we can effectively catch both trout and grayling. Dry fly is effective during insect swarms. An excellent and underestimated method of catching local fish is also a wet fly. Especially during summer evenings. Raba is a perfect fishery for an angler who wants to experience an adventure with a big trout. It is also a good place to start your adventure with fly fishing or improve your skills.

Limits and Restrictions
On our trips to the Raba River we prefer the catch and release method. After hauling in the fish, we take photos and gently release the fish back into the water. Thanks to such practices, we can even catch the same fish several times.
